This course explores aspects of risk management and quality assurance within the healthcare arena. Topics include legislative mandates, healthcare agencies' requirements, and methods of assessing and improving the quality of care. The course emphasizes the procedures utilized to monitor physician and professional staff reappointment and credentialing. We will discuss integration of the research process to conduct performance monitoring, quality improvement, and risk assessment. Ultimately, the course will demonstrate the ways statistical analysis is used to inform decision making. (writing intensive)
