Description

In this course, students will learn to identify and analyze key elements of film. In order to understand how films construct meaning and engage audiences, students will be introduced to the basic formal elements of film; narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, sound, and editing. We will also examine the ways that social cultural, and technological forces shape and are shaped by the cinema. The course will expose students to a variety of film styles and genres, including both classic and contemporary examples. The class includes readings, screenings, and short writing assignments.
