Description

This course will focus on the social, economic, geographic, political, and cultural influences that impact the health of individuals from historically underserved communities. In this course, we will explore the unique health challenges, barriers, and facilitators to healthy behaviors, and upstream factors that contribute to health disparities, in rural, low income, and communities of color. Health disparities will b e discussed as they pertain to healthcare access, environmental health, the built environment, and chronic disease prevention and treatment. In addition, we will explore the role of public health in the creation of relevant, effective, and sustainable community health initiatives for underserved populations.
